James moved from a career in digital media to work in ecological consultancy in early 2018, and since then has worked intensively to broaden his experience. By January 2020, he had obtained his Natural England level 2 class licence for bats. He has handled all 17* native British bat species (*number of species breeding in the UK at the time of writing). He is a registered bat carer, and has cared for over a hundred bats. He conducts voluntary research on barbastelle and small Myotis bats, checks boxes for the National Nathusius' Pipistrelle Project, and has trapped greater and lesser horseshoe bats. He is based in West Sussex, but operates across southern England for CGO Ecology since he joined us in January 2020.
